Introducing SOMA Messevier: An Irrational Sonic Exploration Device

Messevier is your guide to exploring the world of primal, wild radio reception – the way it was first experienced by the pioneers of radio communication

Warsaw, Poland, October 2, 2024 — SOMA Laboratory, maker of experimental synthesizers and sound machines including the legendary LYRA-8 Organismic Synthesizer, announces the availability of Messevier: an irrational, sonic exploration device. Messevier invites users to explore the world of primal, wild radio reception, in the same way it was first experienced by the pioneers of radio communication in times past.

The only constant is change
Messevier is a shortwave receiver that is capable of receiving different stations from all around the Earth. It is peculiar and untraditional in that it does not have the classic input tuning circuit featured on most other devices, allowing the operator to select a single station. Instead, it captures a big part of radio ether as it is in a given moment. This way, the operator can listen to many radio stations at once from all around the globe.

The set of stations that one can listen to, as well as their loudness and their sound, are defined by numbers of constantly changing natural parameters. These parameters may include weather, solar activity, cosmic particles, clouds and dozens of other phenomena that influence and create radio waves. So Messevier essentially turns the world into a global DJ that is constantly creating a unique mix of radio stations in the here and now, in a temporal manner that will never exist again.

Messevier features a beautiful aesthetic, perfectly suited to a uniquely capable device. The wooden exterior features a luxury vintage handmade build with brass inlay, a wide range old school speaker, custom coil, NOS germanium diodes, a vintage neon bulb and other visual and tactile attributes that impart its utterly unique vibe.
